The Inaugural Defense Services Golf Championship 2014

The inaugural Defense Services Golf
Championship tournament was hosted by the prestigious Eagles’ Golf Links
at Sri Lanka Air Force Academy China Bay with much glamour and
ceremony. The event, which was amalgamated with the Defense
services Open Championship and Defense Services Open over 40
Championship was successfully conducted on 23rd and 24th May 2014 with
the good will and comradeship of the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka
Navy, marking a historic milestone in the Defense Services Sports
Calendar of Sri Lanka. The event saw the emergence of a number
of players of potential and promise who are certain to make their mark
in the sport of Golf in Sri Lanka and may even bring glory to Sri Lanka
in the international arena.
The tournament was played on Stableford Gross Format. The Defense Services Golf championship was secured by the Sri Lanka Air Force while the Sri Lanka Navy finished the runners up was presumed by the Sri Lanka Navy. It was also noteworthy to mention that Sri Lanka Army gave a tough fight right through the course finally achieving the third place in the event.
The event was followed by a social gathering of the participants of the Tri-Services. The prize awarding ceremony was conducted under the patronage of the three Chairmen Golf, of the Tri-services. Further, the secretary of the Golf Union of Sri Lanka Mr. Ana Punchihewa and other senior officers of the Sister services were present at the occasion. The match play was supervised by Mr. Tony Whythm, a former president of Sri Lanka Golf Union and few other experts in the field.
