Anniversary Celebrations of FTW and NCO's Management School

63rd Anniversary of No.1 Flying Training Wing (No.1 FTW)
The 63rd Anniversary of the oldest flying formation of the SLAF, No.1 Flying Training Wing (No.1 FTW) was celebrated on the 1st September 2014. The cradle of military aviators was initially stationed at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake as Flying Training School. Thereafter the school was shifted to SLAF Academy China Bay and renamed as No.1 Flying Training Wing in 1963. Due to the security conditions prevailed, the No.1 FTW was shifted to SLAF Base Anuradhapura in 1988.
After the end of the Humanitarian Operations, the No.1 FTW was relocated at SLAF Academy China Bay in 2009.
In celebrating the anniversary, the Wing carried out several social responsibilities by having an alms giving to the much needed “Revatha Children’s Home” and gifting school items for the children. Furthermore, in spiritually developing the Wing personnel, the Wing organised a “Bodi Pooja” at “SamudrasannaWiwekaramaya”. A Wing get- together was organised with a Volleyball tournament which was followed by an all ranks meal with FTW personnel.
14th Anniversary of the Non Commissioned Officers’ Management School
The 14th Anniversary of the Non Commissioned Officers’ Management School was held on 1st of September 2014. In celebrating the anniversary the School organized a Shramadana at “Revatha Children’s Home” which was followed by distributing gifts and dry rations. The Acting Commandant of the SLAF Academy China Bay, Air Commodore Janak Wanigathunga graced the occasion.
A “Pirith Chanting Ceremony” was held on the date of the anniversary to uplift the spiritual wellbeing of the School personnel. The anniversary was followed by a traditional tea party with Commandant Air Commodore Sagara Kotakadeniya and all Formation COs of the Academy.
