Remembering the Heroes of SLAF Base Hingurakgoda
10:25am on Thursday 20th November 2014
“They went with songs to battle; they were
young, straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted. They fell with their faces to the foe.”For the Fallen, Laurence Binyon(1869-1943)
Such was the caliber of the fallen airman that walked the grounds of Hingurakgoda. Thus it is that they are remembered by a grateful base, year after year.
This year too, No 7 Helicopter Squadron and No 9 Attack Helicopter Squadron participated in Religious Ceremonies to commemorate their fallen war heroes.
A ceremony at the Hathamuna Muslim mosque was held on Thursday the 13th of November, while the Christian ceremony was held on Friday the 14th of November 2014. The all night Pirith chanting ceremony commenced in the evening of the 14th and the Almsgiving was held on the following day.
