25th Anniversary of Sri Lanka Air Force Station Ampara

An eventful day of religious activities marked the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Sri Lanka Air Force Station Ampara under the guidance and supervision of the Commanding Officer Group Captain C Wickramaratne together with all officers, other ranks and the civilian staff on 25 November 2014.
The Formation day celebrations began with a parade which was reviewed by the Commanding Officer on 24 November 2014. The Commanding Officer then addressed Officers, other ranks, civilian staff and briefed the history of the Station, contributions to the humanitarian operation, action during natural disasters and future challenges and responsibilities towards the role and task of the SLAF
Coinciding with the Formation day celebrations a ‘Shramadana Campaign’ was conducted at Himmadurawa Temple at Uhana, Ampara with participation of service personnel and the civil staff of the Station. Further presenting of stitched School uniforms for selected underprivileged School children was also conducted in parallel to religious activities.
Afterwards an all night ‘Pirith Chanting’ ceremony was held at the Station on 25 November 2014 to invoke blessings on souls of fallen war heroes of the Sri Lanka Air Force Station Ampara, who made the supreme sacrifice to defend the nation and also to bless the entire Air Force.
Subsequent to the Pirith Chanting ceremony, an alms giving was offered to fifty venerable Maha Sangha, which was followed by offering of ‘Ata Pirikara’ along with other ‘Pirikara’. The ceremony was concluded invoking blessings on the station that it may serve the country courageously in the future as well.
