SLAF Goes Into Action To Assist Those Affected By Floods

A Bell 212 Helicopter from SLAF Base Hingurakoda carried out a search and rescue operation and a Mi 17 Helicopter from SLAF Base Anuradhapura did immediate relief distribution to the affected communities at Mannar yesterday (24 Dec 14) with the coordination of the Disaster Management Center. Thousands of people were reported to have been displaced as of yesterday afternoon by floods which had affected most parts of the country in the last couple of days.
The Disaster Management Center said that thousands more were affected by the heavy rain and immediate relief had been dispatched to the worst affected areas.
Sri Lanka Air Force Base Hingurakgoda has deployed personnel on flood relief duties to render assistance to the people affected in liaison with officials of District Disaster Management Center and relevant Government officials in the Polonnaruwa districts. Drinking water and cooked foods were distributed among those who were affected.
