The SLAF men and women Judokas became the Champions and runners up respectively at the 54th National Judo Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Judo Association which was held at Judo Association Colombo on 29 and 30 December 2014.

SLAF won the Men’s Open and team categories and became runner up of the Women’s team category whilst bagging 12 Gold Medals, 08 Silver Medals and 07 Bronze Medals at the championship. Twelve societies scattered around the Island took part in the competition.

In the men’s events, the airmen placed first in the weight categories of 50Kg, 73Kg, 81Kg, 100Kg, 100+ Kg as well as the team and open events. The airwomen too excelled, clinching first place in the categories of 44 Kg, 48Kg, 57 Kg, 63Kgand 78Kg.
 

The victorious SLAF Judo teams were captained by Leading Aircraftman Wickremage JSK while the dedicated training for the sportsmen and women was ensured thanks to the team’s coach Mr. P.G. Sunil.

Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee Mr. Maxwell De Silva graced the finals as the Chief Guest. President of the Sri Lanka Judo Association Mr Gayan Vithana, Chairman SLAF Judo Air Commodore KFR Fernando, Secretary SLAF Judo Wing Commander MASN Wijesinghe, officers and other ranks were also present at the finals.
