His Holiness the Pope takes wing on SLAF Helicopter

The Sri Lanka Air Force was privileged to participate actively in the recent visit of His Holiness the Pope Francis to Sri Lanka.
The Pope was welcomed by a Tri Service Guard of Honour and was conducted by a specially constructed papal mobile to the Apostolic Nunciature in Colombo.
The pontiff officiated a well-attended seaside service on the 14th, where he canonized Sri Lanka’s first Saint, Saint Joseph Vaz at Galle Face Green. On Wednesday, the pope proceeded to the famous Madhu Shrine, by SLAF Mi17 Helicopter.
The SLAF was also involved in the completion of the Benedict the XVI Cultural Institute at Bolawalana, Negombo, which was opened by His Holiness Pope Francis on 15 January. The Cultural Institute was constructed to portray the cultural pride of the Catholic faithful as well as to promote the propagation of the faith.
