An act of bravery of SLAF Member, Corporal Wijewardene JTBG was appreciated at the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in connection with  rescuing Mr Martyn, a Dutch national on 27 Feb 15.

The Dutch national had accidently fallen off from the World's End in Horton Plains on 21 Feb 15 whilst on honeymoon in Sri Lanka. The tourist had gone too close to the edge and slipped off. He had managed to grab on to a tree. The other tourists who had accompanied him, had informed the police regarding the incident. A helicopter was deployed for the rescue operation by Sri Lanka Air Force and four Regiment special force personnel were dispatched from SLAF Diayathalawa.
