Pre-School opens at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda

A new Pre-school with modern facilities was declared open by the First Lady Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksha this morning (01 March 2010) at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda.
Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force Air Chief Marshall Roshan Goonetileke accompanied the chief guest to the pre-school which constructed under patronage of the Base Commander of SLAF Base H’goda Group Captain DK Wanigasuriya and the Chairperson SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Nelun Goonetileke.
The Seva Vanitha Unit of Sri Lanka Air Force has undertaken to upgrade the Pre-Schools belonging to Sri Lanka Air Force, to l standards with the intention of giving every child an opportunity for equal and quality early childhood education, regardless of their financial/social status.
This includes enhancing phases of child-hood development with carefully planned text books and class room activities with internationally recognized curriculum taught in English, creating an environment that is conducive and supportive to effective learning with modern classroom facilities and carefully selected professional and devoted teaching staff, adding extra curricular activities such as swimming, art and craft, music and dancing, and speech and drama.
Sri Lanka Air Force Pre-schools situated all over the country caters not only the children of the serving personnel, but the children of the civil society in the neighbourhoods as well. The Montessori at SLAF Base H’goda was selected for the modernisation since a considerable number of children of the serving personnel are in attendance.
Following the function few scholarships were granted to children for the continuation of their higher studies, distribution of interest free loans and distribution of wheel chairs was done by the Seva Vanitha Unit in order to uplift the Air Force personnel living standards.
