First Year Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit –MINUSCA

An activity filled day of celebration marked the first year anniversary of the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit, MINUSCA which fell on 9th September 2015.
The day started with a parade held in the early hours of the day, marking the formalities of the special occasion. The Contingent Commander addressed the parade and congratulated all members on carrying out an outstanding job throughout the entire year, while being away from home and loved ones. He emphasized that the efforts put forth by every member of the contingent had earned a good name for the contingent as well as the country and encouraged everyone to continue this great service until the day they leave for their homes.
An all ranks breakfast was organized and commenced after the parade. As per tradition, the oil lamp was lit by the officials of the contingent and the contingent members partook of the delicious meal that was prepared.
The contingent members then joined in a cricket tournament that was organized by the events committee. 4 teams played in the tournament; Officers, Warrant Officers, SNCOs and JNCOs. Out of these teams, the Officers team and the JNCOs team made it to the grand finale and after an exciting match, the Officers team emerged the winners.
The festivities continued in the evening, with a barbeque in the open area of the living quarters. All contingent members gathered around the camp fire that sharing their joy at the successful completion of a year in the tough environment. The party was kicked off by ceremoniously cutting the Anniversary Cake by the Contingent Commander and the Logistics Coordinator.
