SLAF Saves the Welikumbura Reserve

A Bell 212 helicopter with a ‘Bambi Bucket’ from No. 04 Squadron SLAF Base Katunayaka was deployed to douse a fire in the Matiyagane Welikumbura Reserve, Narammala after it become uncontrollable yesterday (02 March 2010).

The prompt and timely action of the SLAF upon receiving request from forest officer was very effective. Water from the Matiyagane tank was used in ten consecutive shuttles to bring the fire under control.
