No 01 Sri Lanka Aviation Unit Celebrates “Soorya Mangalllaya” in South Sudan

The “Soorya Mangalllaya”-Bakmaha Ulela was celebrated by the No 01 Sri Lanka Aviation Unit in South Sudan on 15 April 2016 in the unit premises as a part of Sri Lankan New Year traditions.
The Contingent Commander of the Sri Lanka Aviation unit Wing Commander Vishwa Samantha graced the bakmaha Ulela by lighting the traditional oil lamp at the “Gama Gedara”.
The event was unique and became more colourful as it was commenced from sunset to midnight. It was comprised with various traditional games, including “Gama haraha divima”,”Kotta pora”. Participants show their strength by tug of war and their fancy dress parade made the event electrified. The contribution of the foreigners for all these games added colour to the event.
All contingent personal including Sri Lanka Air force, Sri Lanka Army, Police, members of other contingents and civil staff were present at the event.
