Air Force Wins the 9th Defence Services Cycling Championship 2016

The Sri Lanka Air Force Men’s & Women’s cycling teams became the overall champions at 9th Defence Services Cycling Championship 2016 concluded on 11 Jun 2016.
The men’s race started in front of Sri Lanka Navy camp Welisara and covered a distance of 156km Katunayake, Madampe, Giriulla, Seedwa and finished in front of the same place.
Sergeant Jeewan Jayasinghe and LAC Naveen Ruchira of SLAF secured the 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The team event was won by Sri Lanka Air Force.
The women’s race started from the same place and riders covered a distance of 32km. SLAF women’s cyclists LAC Tharuni Panchali won the 1st place whilst LAC Iresha Madushani and LAC Dinesha Dilrukshi secured the 2nd and 3rd places thereby, SLAF women’s team bagged the Team Champions Trophy of the 9th DSG 2016.
Director General of Sri Lanka Army Band Major General MHP Mihindukulasuriya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the awards ceremony. The Chairman SLAF Cycling Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias and officials of the Committee also presented at this event.
