Three Airmen to Represent Sri Lanka at Rio Olympics 2016

For the first time in its sixty five years of history, Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) represents Sri Lankan Squad for athletics, Judo and swimming at the Rio Olympics 2016 which will be held from 3 to 21 of August 2016 in Rio de Janerio Brazil.

Following Airmen are representing Sri Lanka at this unique sporting event

Cpl Ranasinghe S           -    Javelin Throw
LAC Darmawardena NC   -   Judo(First time in the SL History)
AC Abeysinghe M           -    Swimming

Commander of the Air Force encouraged and congratulated them with the respective Chairmen of sports committees and the officials of the Air Force Sports Council prior to their departure for the Olympic Games.

Cpl Ranasinghe is the national record holder of the Javelin Throw event and LAC Darmawardena is the national champion in 74 Kg weight category in the discipline of Judo.  AC Abeysinghe joined the SLAF recently who won eight Gold medals at the South Asian Games held in India in January 2016.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
