No 1 Flying Training Wing Celebrates its 65th anniversary

No 1 Flying Training Wing, SLAF Academy China Bay celebrated its 65th anniversary on 01 September 2016.
Marking the occasion a parade was held at the Wing premises and was reviewed by the Commanding Officer Wing Commander Asela Jayasekera. This was followed by a friendly softball cricket tournament held between the Wing personnel at the Academy sports arena. The Commandant of the Air Force Academy Air Commodore Ravi Jayasinghe graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Preceding the main event celebrations, the Wing undertook a Bodhi Pooja at the Samudrasanna Viverkarama temple at Dimuthugama on 30 Aug 2016. The religious event was presided by Ven Dehiowita Piyatissa, the Chief Sanganayaka of North and East provinces and the Commandant, SLAF Academy also graced this occasion. This event was attended by the Wing personnel, families as well as residents of the area.
A Social Responsibility project was carried out by the Wing personnel where school books were distributed amongst the needy students of Siddhartha Vidyalala, Nachchikuda. Several other requirements of the school were highlighted by the principal where the Wing could continue its contribution in uplifting the school standards.
