UN Peace Keeping MINUSCA Medal Awarding Ceremony

The 2nd contingent of Sri Lanka Aviation Unit MINUSCA passed yet another important milestone on 16th September 2016 when it held its Medal Parade in glamour and style at the Contingent premises in Bria, Central African Republic.
Her Excellency Mrs. Diane Corner, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General for Political Affairs and Protection of Civilians, MINUSCA graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Chief Of Staff of United Nations Military Forces in MINUSCA, Brigadier General Jean Eudes Barau (French Army), Head of the Office of MINUSCA staff Bria, Chief Military Personnel Officer MINUSCA, Sector Commander of Sector East MINUSCA and numerous other dignitaries graced this memorable occasion.
The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka and the professionalism of the Sri Lankan Air Force personnel deployed in MINUSCA and was organized under the guidance of the Contingent Commander. The distinguished guests were welcomed to the event in Sri Lankan tradition by Kandyan Dancers. The magnificent Drill display followed by a cultural show consisting of ‘Thuraga wannama’, ‘Pandam Paliya’, and the performances of the Sri Lanka Aviation Calypso Band were highly applauded by the visitors.
The Chief Guest and all other dignitaries praised the Sri Lanka Aviation Contingent for their professionalism and dedication shown throughout the tenure in MINUSCA. Further, their speeches specially highlighted the fact that the Sri Lankan Aviation Contingent remains the only Aviation Unit in MINUSCA based out of the capital city of Bangui, which is a challenging and daunting venture.
