Fifteen SLAF Taekwondo players including two officials participated at the 10th CK Classic International Open Taekwondo Championship 2016, in Malaysia. This is the first instant that a SLAF Taekwondo team participated at an international event since Taekwondo was established in the SLAF in 2011. The championship was held from 23 Sep 16 to 25 Sep 16, at Stadium Badminton Cheras, Kuala Lumpur with the participation of 18 countries.

On 24 Sep 16, SLAF Taekwondo team participated a special training programme on fighting tips with Grand Master Byung Hee Lee (8th Dan Black belt) and Master Boon Kim Huat (7th Dan Black belt) at the World Taekwondo Instructors Academy, Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. 

During the first international competition, SLAF Taekwondo team secured 2 Silver medals and 4 Bronze medals.
