The Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2017 was flagged off by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy this morning in front of SLAF Headquarters.

Conducted to mark the 66th anniversary of the SLAF, this year’s race is the 18th such, and is sponsored by Abans Ltd.

The Men's race that commenced this morning will end its first lap at Puttalam today, covering a distance of 128.2 km.  Approximately 185 riders started the race this morning.

The first leg was won by Sandun Chamika of SLPA, with Lakmal & Naveen Ruchira of SLAF finishing second and third respectively.

The second leg, spanning 138.5 km will start tomorrow from SLAF Station Palavi.
