“Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2017” was held for the 18th consecutive year, coinciding with the 66th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force. The men’s race was held on 3th, 4th and 5th March 2017 in 3 stages. Cyclists from all around the country as well as from outside participated in this race covering a total distance of 415km. Avishka Mandensa of the SL Navy won the overall Championship. The team event was won by Sri Lanka Air Force B team.

In the women’s race held on 05th March 2017 from Kilinochchi to Jaffna, Iresha Madushani of SLAF won the women's race of Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya while Sulochana Panchali (SLAF) & DLA Dilhani (SL Army) finished 2nd & 3rd respectively. The team event was won by the Sri Lanka Air Force team.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Duraiappa Stadium Jaffna and the District Secretary of Jaffna Mr. N. Vethanayahan graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Commander Security Force Jaffna Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Chairman SLAF Cycling, Air Vice Marshal Sagara Kotakadeniya, Commanding Officer SLAF Station Palaly Group Captain LH Sumanaweera representatives from the main sponsors LG Abans and the media partner Sirasa TV were also present at the presentation ceremony.
