Medal Awarding Ceremony of Sri Lanka Aviation Contingent - UNMISS

The 2nd contingent of Sri Lanka Aviation Unit of United Nations’ Mission In South Sudan (UNMISS) passed another milestone in its successful journey and held the UN Peace Keeping Medal awarding ceremony on 15 Mar 2017. The 2nd  Sri Lanka Aviation Contingent was established in UNMISS, Bor on 07th June 2016 and has successfully completed 09 months mandatory requirement.

The event was graced by the Director Mission Support of UNMISS, Ms. Stephani Scheer as the chief guest.

Air Vice Marshal Sagara Kotakadeniya the Director Logistics, attended the parade as the Special Representative of Sri Lanka Air Force to witness this historical occasion.

Force Chief Of Staff of UNMISS, Brigadier General Robert Lowth , Head of Field Office of UNMISS Bor, Sector Commander of Sector East UNMISS, The Chief Air Operations Officer of UNMISS, Other Contingent Commanders of Bor and  numerous other dignitaries graced this memorable occasion.

The medal parade was made more glamourous by the fact that it was held in the night, replete with a drill display, traditional dance items, drum performance, flute performance as well as a fire display.  A fire dance was performed by the contingent personnel before the guest were hosted to a unique Sri Lankan Dinner at the contingent premises.

 

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
