No 111 UAV Squadron at SLAF Base Vavuniya Celabrates its 9th Anniversary

No 111 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron at SLAF Base Vavuniya celebrated its 9th anniversary on 01 June 2017. The initial batch of UAVs was inducted in the year 1996 and No 11 UAV Squadron was formed at SLAF Base Vavuniya. Subsequently, the squadron was remodeled as No 111 and No 112 UAV Squadrons on 01 June 2008. During the concluded “Humanitarian Operation”, the No 111 UAV Squadron extensively used its Searcher MK II UAVs over LTTE controlled terrain providing real time intelligence and surveillance necessities.
In view of celebrating its 9th anniversary, a “Shramadana” Campaign was conducted at The Pahala Halmillewa Vidyalaya at Kebithigollewa on 31 May 2017 with the participation of all officers and airmen of the squadron.
The formation day parade was held on 01 June 2017, followed by a Cricket match and a Badminton tournament, with the participation of all ranks of the formation and the patronage of Sqn Ldr WVAW Senarath, the Commanding Officer.
