SLAF Station Ampara Celebrates Its 28th Anniversary

The 28th Formation day celebrations of SLAF Ampara began with a parade reviewed by the Commanding Officer Group Captain HWR Chandima. Addressing the gathering, the Commanding Officer thanked all who contributed to uplift the standards of the Station, and briefed the history of the Station, its contributions to the humanitarian operation, action during natural disasters, future challenges and its responsibilities towards the role and task of the SLAF.
A Blood donation programme, a cleaning programme at the Ampara public cemetery, a donation programme and a cleaning programme at “Himidurawa School” Ampara were held coinciding with the Formation Day Celebrations. A Softball Cricket tournament and a Tug of war tournament were conducted with the participation of Service personnel and the civil staff of the Station.
The event concluded with an all ranks lunch.
An eventful day of religious activities was also planned as part of the celebrations, under the guidance of the Commanding Officer, with the participation of all officers, other ranks, and the civilian staff. An all-night ‘Pirith Chanting’ ceremony was held at the Station on 26 Nov 17 followed by an alms giving on 27 Nov 17, where “Ata Pirkara and Sesu Pirikara” were offered to the Maha Sangha to invoke blessings on the souls of fallen war heroes of the SLAF and other services who made the supreme sacrifice to protect the nation. The ceremony was concluded invoking blessings on the station and the Sri Lanka Air Force so that it may serve the country courageously in the future as well.
