The International Military Sport Council (CISM) Day Run 2018

The International Military Sport Council (CISM) Day Run was flagged off at the Galle Face green on 18 February 2018. Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Mr. Kapila Waidyaratne attended the event as Chief Guest while Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of Navy Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy took the lead in the run. Over a hundred personnel from each service participated in ‘CISM Day Run’ which covered the distance of about 2 km.
The International Military Sport Council (CISM) was founded in 18th of February 1948, and organizes various sporting events for the armed forces worldwide. CISM brings together military personnel from all its 133 member countries’ nations, who may previously have met on the battle field, enabling them to strengthen their friendship on the playing field. This is in accordance with the philosophy and the ideals which were set in CISM’s mission statement in 1998, signed by all the member countries. The ultimate goal of CISM is to contribute to world peace by uniting armed forces through sports, achieving its motto, “Friendship through Sport”.
