‘Gama Hada Gamu’ Rural Drug Prevention Programme

The first programme of the “Gama Hada Gamu” drug prevention programme at rural level implemented under the “Mathin Nidahas Ratak” National Drive was held under the patronage of His Excellency the President, Maithripala Sirisena at the Mahaweli Ground, Embilipitiya yesterday (23rd February 2018). This programme is aimed at building a sustainable mechanism for drug prevention by strongly influencing the illicit drug traders engaged in smuggling and selling drugs with the collaboration of the village folk and leading individuals in society.
The Gama Hada Gamu programme aims at reducing the production and sale of illegal drugs at a rural level. The community education programmes will be carried out through the programme and initiatives will be taken to rehabilitate drug users.
The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy addressed the inaugural meeting. The Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and the Commander of the Navy were also present for the event.
Ministers, District Secretaries of Ratnapura, Divisional Secretariat, Directors of Education, other civil officers and senior members of security forces were present at this event. text
