Medal Awarding Ceremony United Nations Missions in South Sudan (UNMISS)

The third contingent of the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit of the United Nations Missions in South Sudan (UNMISS) reached another landmark in its successful journey when it held the UN peace keeping “Medal Awarding Ceremony” on 23rd March 2018. A total of 85 airmen and 19 Officers including the contingent Commander Wing Commander Prassanna Kuruwita received their UN Peacekeeping Medals during the parade.
The Director Aeronautical Engineering AVM MD Rathnayake graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Head of Field Office of Bor for UNMISS, Chief Aviation Officer for UNMISS and many other dignitaries were present during this memorable occasion.
A cultural pageant that depicted the proud heritage of Sri Lanka added colour and elegance to the ceremony.
An eye catching drill display and an impressive fire dance served to impress the guest further, who were then treated to a traditional Sri Lankan meal that was enjoyed by all while the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit Musicians provided background music.
