No.6 Squadron spends a day with Children of the Avanthidevi Girls Orphanage
5:22pm on Wednesday 30th June 2010
The No.6 Helicopter Squadron of the Sri Lanka Air Force marked the
'Poson Poya' (23rd June) by assisting the Avanthidevi Girls Orphanage
in Anuradhapura.
A shramadana campaign conducted by the personnel of the squadron saw the orphanage being cleaned and the surrounding vegetation cleared. A day of activities and art was organized to showcase the talents of 48 children who are in the care of the orphanage. The Air Force personnel joined in the activities and cheered on the performances of the young ones. The evening saw song and dance by the children at the end of which Air Force personnel distributed gifts and souvenirs amongst the children.
Coming to the aid of others is nothing new to the No.6 Squadron. During the past two decades they have responded to front line requirements, rushing in vital supplies to troops on the ground or evacuating the wounded under fire. The Mi-17's and the crews of the NO.6 Squadron have always been at hand to respond effectivly and efficiently to suppoert and conduct humanitarian missions in whatever conditions.
