The Induction Ceremony of the President of
Sri Lanka College Of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) was held at the Lotus
Ballroom, Shangri La Hotel, Colombo at 1900hrs on 20 May 18.
The Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy
graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest whilst Deshamanya Vidya Jyothi
Professor Colvin Goonaratna, President of Sri Lanka Medical Council was
the Guest of Honour.
The Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour, the President SLCOMM and the Executive Committee entered the ballroom in a Colorful Ceremonial procession lead by the SLAF bag pipers. Major General SH Munasinghe the outgoing President of the SLCOMM delivered the welcome address.
The Guest of Honour, Professor Colvin Goonaratna explained the evolution of medicine in the world and Sri Lanka. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering on the significance of medicine in the lives of military personnel adding his own life changing experiences from the battlefront.
Following the brief citation of Air Vice Marshal LR Jayaweera which was delivered by Air Vice Marshal NH Gunaratna (Retired), the outgoing president of SLCOMM ceremonially inducted the new President for the upcoming year. The highlight of the ceremony was the Presidential Address delivered by the newly Inducted President AVM LR Jayaweera, Director Health Services, SLAF under the theme “Military Medicine; Beyond the Battlefield”. He explained the significance of medicine on the battlefront throughout history and the development of Medical Branches of the tri services. He emphasized on the relationship between SLCOMM and other International Military Medicine Organizations as well as the future plans of the SLCOMM to deliver a better service to the tri forces.
Among the many distinguished attendees were retired senior medical and dental officers of the tri forces, senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force as well as professionals and academics of varying specialties.
