SLAF Wins the Sports Exchange Programme Friendly Soccer Tournament

The SLAF Men’s Soccer Team won the Sports Exchange Programme Friendly Soccer Tournament which was concluded yesterday at the Soccer and Hockey Ground Complex at SLAF Trade Training School, Ekala.
A 21 - member Soccer team from the Bangladesh Air Force arrived in Sri Lanka on the 07th of July 2018 to participate in a friendly Soccer Tournament with their SLAF counterparts under the Sports Exchange Programme.

The first friendly encounter with the Sri Lanka Air Force Soccer team took place at newly constructed Soccer and Hockey Ground Complex at SLAF Trade Training School, Ekala on 08th July 2018. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The second friendly encounter with the BAF Soccer team took place at the Rifle Green Grounds at SLAF Station Colombo under lights on 10th July 2018. This encounter ended in a 2-2 draw. The Chief of Staff of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias graced the event as the Chief Guest. Members of the Air Force Board of Management, Officers airmen and civilian soccer enthusiasts were also present to witness the event at Colombo.

The final encounter took place at the Soccer and Hockey Ground Complex at SLAF Trade Training School, Ekala yesterday (12 July 2018). This encounter was won by the SLAF Team and final score was 1-0. The Director Sports of the SLAF, Air Commodore IK Weerarathne attended as the Chief Guest.

This is the first time that a Bangladesh Air Force Soccer team visited Sri Lanka for a tournament of this nature.  The visit is a testament to the cordial relations between the BAF and the SLAF and also of the warm relations between the two nations.
