The Central Cultural Fund’s program to develop and promote the Jathika Namal Uyana commenced on 26 July 2018 under the auspices of the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy also attended the event.

The Jathika Namal Uyana was vested in the custody of the Central Cultural Fund as per a request made by Venerable Wanawasi Rahula Thero, the custodian of the premises.
 
The new Information Centre at the Jathika Namal Uyana and the J.R.Jayawardena Memorial Meditation Centre were also declared open as well.
