Newly Formed Air Force Chess Team Bags Bronze Medal at 9th Kandy Open International Chess Tournament 2018

The Sri Lanka Air Force Chess Club, established recently on  a novel concept the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathi is made up of serving Officers and Airmen who had  previous Chess experience, inducted and trained under the coaching of Mr. Keshan Egodage a former internationally ranked chess player.
 
At their first appearance after its inception they were able to bag a Bronze Medal in the Government Service/Mercantile Category at the 9th Kandy Open International Rating Chess Tournament held from 07th  August to 12th August 2018 at Polgolla Kandy. The team consisted of six players, Wing Commander Krishantha Perera, Squadron Leader Nandaka Wickramasinghe, Corporal Anuruddha, Corporal Pabasara , Corporal Rathnayake and Leading Aircraftman Ramyasiri. The tournament was organized by the 64 Square International Chess Academy in liaison with International Chess Federation as well as Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and the Kandy District Chess Committee.


Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
