Inter Unit Drill and Band Competition and Selection of Best Drill Instructor 2018

The Inter Unit Drill and Band Competition and the selection of the Best Drill Instructor 2018, was successfully concluded on17 August 2018 at the SLAF Base Katunayake Parade Square.
Over 23 teams representing all SLAF establishments took part in the drill competition from which three teams, one from SLAF Base Katunayake, one from SLAF Station Bandaranayake International Airport (BIA) and one team from SLAF Trade Training School (TTS) Ekala qualified to perform in the finals. All three teams displayed their talents in front of the chief guest, the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy.
SLAF Base Katunayake Team obtaining 406.04 points, led by Squadron Leader BHKK De Alwis Senevirathne marched ahead of the other teams to receive the Championship Trophy from Commander of the Air Force, whilst SLAF TTS Ekala team (380.73 points) led by Flight Lieutenant EVNM Wimalagunasekara and SLAF Station BIA Team (375.90 points) led by Flight Lieutenant PADCM Paththiwila became second and third respectively.
The Band Competition was between the Military Band of the Red Wing of SLAF Base Katunayake and the military band of SLAF Academy China Bay. Military Band of the Red Wing of SLAF Base Katunayake scored 724.25 points, which made them the Inter Unit Band Competition champions, whilst Military Band of the SLAF Academy China Bay (722.5 points) became the runners up.
29213 Sergeant Sanjeewa JN of Colour Wing ,SLAF Base katunayake was named the Best Qualified Drill Instructor with a score of 421.16 points, 28460 Corporal Jayasundara JMIJK of SLAF CTS Diyatalawa (413.88 points) and 31485 Corporal Priyantha RDN of SLAF Station Morawewa (404 points) became second and third respectively.
Chief of Staff of the SLAF Air Vice Marshal DLS Dias, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, Base Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake Air Vice Marshal Prasanna payoe, Base Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers, Other ranks and their families witnessed the competition.
