5th Categorization and Re-validation Board for SLAF Fighter Controllers
The 5th Categorization and Revalidation Board for SLAF Fighter Controllers was concluded at SLAF Base Katunayake yesterday (29 October 2018). The Valediction Ceremony of 5th Categorization and Re-validation Board for SLAF Fighter Controllers was held at the Officers’ Mess of SLAF Base Katunayake on the 26th of October 2018. Director Air Operation, Air Vice Marshal SK Pathirana grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The evaluation board was conducted under the direct supervision and guidance of a specialized IAF delegation headed by Group Captain J Singh. The first phase of the Categorization Board was held at No 1 Defence Radar Squadron SLAF Base Katunayake. During that, the fighter controllers underwent a series of refreshing lectures, practical sessions and also interactive discussions with fighter pilots. Simulated Interceptions and Practice Interceptions were mainly conducted during the second phase of the categorization at the No 5 Air Defence Radar Squadron SLAF Station Palavi.
Fighter Controllers were evaluated through written and practical tests as well as a viva-voce. Three Fighter Controller Officers were upgraded to category ‘BEE’ while another three were revalidated to their current category, ‘Category BEE’.
Overall Operation Commander Air Defence, Air Vice Marshal MDAP Payoe, Command Air Traffic Control Officer Air Cdre SCK Pallawela, Commanding Officer ADC&CC Wg Cdr PC Dissanayake and all the Commanding Officers of Technical Formations participated as distinguished guests for the final event.
