The Sri Lanka Air Force in Collaboration with the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Navy conducted a Medical Outreach Program at the Paranagama Wewa Viduhala, Gajabapura, Weli Oya on 17 November 2018 as a CSR project of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine, in its drive to contribute actively to the betterment of the general public.

Despite being battered by the 3 decade long terrorist conflict in Sri Lanka, the public in the region has continued to feed the entire nation through agriculture. It was felt that the region lacked access to advanced and sometimes even basic medical facilities despite being significantly burdened with numerous chronic diseases including Chronic Kidney Disease. Understanding the dire need to provide medical facilities in situ at the community, it was decided to hold a Medical Outreach Program for the residents of this area.

On behalf of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine, the Directorate of Health Services of Sri Lanka Air Force spearheaded the organizing of the program. The heads of the respective medical divisions of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force attended the program and provided their invaluable input to successfully conduct the program.  The active participation of the medical services of the three armed forces was instrumental to its success.

The Medical Outreach program consisted of Outpatient facilities, Specialist Radiology Clinic (including Ultrasound Scanning and X Ray facilities), Specialist Medical Clinic, Specialist Paediatric Clinic, Specialist Obstetric & Gynaecology Clinic, Specialist Orthopaedic Clinic, Specialist Ophthalmology Clinic, Specialist Dermatology Clinic, Physiotherapy facilities, Medical Laboratory facilities and Emergency Treatment facilities. In addition the program included donation of spectacles, donation of nutritional supplements to children and pregnant mothers as well as sessions on health education. The 62 Division of Sri Lanka Army provided logistical support to the program.

Well over 1100 patients were treated at the Medical Outreach Program which included diagnosis, management and referral for follow up care of life threatening conditions, Chronic NCDs and other ailments.
