SLAF Station Ampara Celebrates 29th Anniversary

The 29th Anniversary celebrations of SLAF Station Ampara began with a parade which was reviewed by the Commanding Officer, Group Captain HWR Chandima. Addressing the gathering, the Commanding Officer spoke on the history of the Station, its contributions to the Humanitarian Operation, Actions during Natural Disasters, Future Challenges and its responsibilities towards the role and task of the SLAF. He also thanked all who contributed to uplift the standards of the Station.
A Blood Donation Programme, a “Shramadana” programme at the Ampara Public Cemetery, a “Shramadana” programme at “DS Senanayake National School” Ampara, fatigue programme at Buddangala Aranya and a “Shramadana” programme at Damana Divisional Hospital Ampara were held coinciding with the anniversary celebrations. A Softball Cricket Tournament, a Tug of War Tournament and a Volleyball Tournament were conducted with the participation of service personnel and the civil staff of the Station. The event concluded with an All Ranks Lunch.
An eventful day of religious activities was also planned as part of the celebrations, under the guidance of the Commanding Officer, with the participation of All Officers, Other Ranks, and Civilian Staff. An all-night ‘Pirith Chanting’ ceremony was held at the Station on 26 November 2018 followed by an Alms giving on 27 November 2018, where “Ata Pirikara” and “Sesu Pirikara” were offered to the Maha Sangha to invoke blessings on the souls of fallen war heroes of the SLAF and other services who made the supreme sacrifice to protect the nation.
