The SLAF Ratmalana Team clinched the first place at the first ever ARFRO Masterminds Competition organized by the Association of Retired Flag Rank Officers (ARFRO) held on 01 December 2018 at the Golden Rose Banquet Hall, Boralesgamuwa.  The Competition was organized in view of promoting intellectual development among the officers of the armed forces especially focused on those who are in the middle management.

The competition was attended by over 100 teams representing the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Kothalawala Defence University and teams representing all Sri Lanka Air Force establishments. The teams were tested on their knowledge on a wide range of affairs principally focusing on Sri Lankan and international military history, Sri Lankan and World History, Sports, Science, Current Affairs and Law.

The SLAF Ratmalana Team was represented by Squadron Leader KSUC Ranasinghe, Squadron Leader SCB Madurawala and Flying Officer HVH De Zoysa.

The winning team received the Masterminds Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 100,000 from Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake who was the Chief Guest of the event. The concluding ceremony was also attended by Air vice Marshal Sumangala Dias Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Air Force, serving and retired flag rank officers of the tri forces.
