Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Catering Assistants' and Ground Stewards' Basic Courses

The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Catering Assistants’ and Ground Stewards’ Basic Courses was held at the Hospitality Management School, SLAF Station, Sigiriya today (22 January 2019) under the supervision of the Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Chinthaka Alwis. The Officer Commanding Logistics of SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, Wing Commander Saman Dasanayake graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Officer In Charge of the National Youth Crops’ Hotel School, Inamaluwa, Major KD Malavige and the Residence Manager – The Paradise Hotel, Sigiriya Mr Shehan Gregory were also present for the event.

Catering Assistants’ and Ground Stewards’ Basic Courses are aimed at developing a competent, confident and skilled tradesman for the Sri Lanka Air Force. The four months of basic training programme is focused on responsibilities and duties of Catering Assistants and Ground Stewards, Catering Procedure and Administration, Admin and Non Public Accounts Knowledge, Hygiene, Simple Cookery, Kitchen Management, English Language Knowledge, Computer Application and Project Preparations.

The Commanding Officer of the Station, Wing Commander Chinthaka Alwis, the Chief Instructor of the Hospitality Management School, Flight Lieutenant Dulantha Cooray, Officers and Other Ranks of the Station were also present. 14 Ground Stewards and 8 Catering Assistants were awarded their certificates at the ceremony.

The trophy for the Best Student of the Catering Assistants’ Basic Course was awarded to Aircraftman Nawaratne NMFPL and the trophy for the Best Student of the Ground Stewards’ Basic Course was awarded to Aircraftman Gunasiri DPLL.
