Paratroopers and Special Air Borne Force Personnel Pass Out at SLAF Base Katunayake

The Passing Out Parade of the No 1 Special Airborne Force Women’s Course, No. 5 Special Airborne Force Course, No. 36, 37, 38, 39 and 40 Basic Airborne Courses, No. 7 Basic Rigger and Maintenance Course, No. 8 and No. 9 Military Free Fall Courses and No. 2 Jump Master and Airborne Operation Course was held at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake today (22 January 2019).
A total of 238 Paratroopers including Army, Navy, STF personnel and 48 SABF personnel received their wings and badges during the parade. For the first time in the history of the SLAF, two Lady Officers and 7 Airwomen completed the No 1 Special Airborne Force Women’s Course.
The Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias, members of the Air Force Board of Management, Senior Officers of the Tri-Services, were also among the distinguished guests that attended the parade. The Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal MDAP Payoe, Commanding Officer of Parachute Training School in Ampara, Wing Commander WMIPK Wijerathna, joined the proud parents of the trainees to witness the function.
The Sky Divers of the SLAF put up a breath taking display of free falling and parachuting, exiting the Helicopter at a height of 5000 feet in the skies above Katunayake.
The Commander, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Director Air Operations, Director Administration, Director General Engineering and the Director Training pinned on the Paratrooper, Rigger, Jump Master, Sky Diver Wings and SABF Badges on the trainees who had successfully completed their respective courses.
