SLAF holds Press Briefing on Air Tattoo 2019 and Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2019

The press briefing of the "68th Air Force Day Exposition and Air Tattoo - 2019" and the 20th consecutive “Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya-2019 ” was held at the Air Force Headquarters, Colombo yesterday (20th February 2019).
The Sri Lanka Air Force will be celebrating its 68th Anniversary on the 2nd of March 2019. In upholding its tradition of rich history, the "AIR FORCE DAY" is the premier event in its calendar. This year, the event will be celebrated with great pomp and pageantry with a special exposition and Air Tattoo at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda.
A Presidential Colour Awarding Parade will also be held on 2nd March 2019 at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Hingurakgoda where the President's Colour will be awarded to the No 7 Helicopter Squadron and the No 8 Light Transport Squadron, in recognition of their outstanding service to the nation.
The Air Tattoo will be held from 2nd to 6th March 2018 and will showcase stalls from various units and formations of the Air Force coupled with a Kiddies Play area and food stalls. The line-up of events for each day will include a Fly Past, Aerobatic Display by the newly formed Blue Eagles, a Parachute Display, a Display by Regimental Special Forces, an Air Dog Show, a Band and Drill Display, a Cultural Show and a Musical Extravaganza. The 1st day’s proceedings will commence by 10.00 am under the auspices of and conclude at mid night while on the other 4 days, proceedings will commence at 2.00 pm and conclude at mid night. Entrance on all five days will be Free of Charge.
“Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya -2019” will be conducted for the 20th consecutive year in concurrence with the 68th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force. This race is ranked at National level and conducted under the auspices of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL). Over one hundred male and thirty female Sri Lankan ranking/other riders registered with the CFSL are expected to compete in this race.
The duration of the race will be 3 days. It will start on 1st March 2019 from Air Force Headquarters Colombo, passing each leg through Kandy, Anuradhapura, Habarana and finish in Polonnaruwa. It will cover a distance of 414 Km.
The final awards ceremony will be held at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda at 1700 Hrs on 3rd March 2019 where the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy will grace the occasion with the sponsors and other distinguished guests.
Director Air Operations of the SLAF and Chairman Organizing Committee Air Tattoo 2019, Air Vice Marshal SK Pathirana, the Vice Chancellor of the Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Chairman SLAF Cycling, Air Vice Marshal HMSKB Kotakadeniya, Member Organizing Committee Air Tattoo 2019, Air Commodore SK Senarathne, Secretary SLAF Cycling, Air Commodore LMSK Leelaratne, Director Media of the SLAF, Group Captain MDAG Seneviratne, President of Sri Lanka Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka Mr. N Karunarathne, members of Organizing Committee SLAF Cycling and a large number of journalists from the electronic and print media were also present at the occasion.

Further, this year People’s Insurance has joined hands with the Sri Lanka Air Force as the Insurance Partner of the race. At the conclusion of press briefing, the sponsorship cheques were handed over to the Chairman SLAF Cycling, Air Vice Marshal HMSKB Kotakadeniya. Officials from the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation, Sponsors, Officer’s of the SLAF were present at the briefing.
