A group of visitors to the Sigiriya rock were attacked by a swamp of “Wasps” around 03.15 pm today (15 August 2009). The SLAF Sigiriya station was informed of the attack and a medical rescue team was immediately dispatched to the location.

The Commanding Officer of SLAF Sigiriya Wing Commander Sudil Peiris stated that over 30 persons were injured in the incident and were rushed to the Kimbissa and Dambulla national hospitals for treatment.
