The SLAF celebrates 68 Years of Service to the Nation

The Sri Lanka Air Force officially celebrated the 68th Anniversary today (8 March 2018) together with all SLAF establishments.
The Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy, reviewed the Guard of Honour Parade held at AFHQ. He then addressed everyone present at AFHQ as well as all members of the SLAF through live streaming technology courtesy of the Directorate of Information Technology. The Commander thanked all members, past and present and their families, for their contribution towards enabling the Air Force to achieve the success it currently enjoys. He also emphasized that the Sri Lanka Air Force over the past year has ventured into new and uncharted areas such as Seed Bombing and Cloud Seeding. He also said that the SLAF has taken an extra effort in uplifting the lives of its serving and retired members as well.
Thereafter, the Commander attended for the Flag Blessing Ceremony which was organized for the first time at the AFHQ Auditorium. Venerable Monks led by the Chief Incumbent of the Amarapura Maha Nikaya, Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thero chanted Pirith and blessed all the flags of the SLAF Academy, Bases and Stations.
The Commander also attended for the 68th Anniversary celebrations at Rifle Green Grounds in Colombo. The celebrations were organized under the leadership of the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Colombo, Air Commodore Waruna Gunawardana. The Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias, Members of the AFBM, Senior Officers at AFHQ and SLAF Station Colombo, Officers and other ranks attended for these celebrations. The celebrations were concluded with the customary All Ranks Lunch at the Airmens’ Mess at SLAF Station Colombo.
