Medical and Dental Health Camp Conducted at the Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic Kandy

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic which is situated in Kandy is one of the most significant heritage sites in Sri Lanka. It is the responsibility of all Sri Lankans to protect its infrastructure as well as the Buddhist Priest and who are attached to the “Asgiriya” and “Malwaththa” chapters and the civilian staff working in the Temples.
With the blessings of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias and under the guidance of the Director Health Services, Air vice Marshal (Dr.) LR Jayaweera, Senior medical Officers and Dental officers of the Directorate of Health Services organized a ‘Mega Health Camp’ at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, for the third consecutive year for the medical clinic and the seventh consecutive year for the Dental clinic, on 20 September 2019 in collaboration with the Kandy General Hospital with the participation of 5 Consultants, 27 Doctors, 3 other Officers and 96 Medical, Dental and Other Staff. The Medical and Dental clinics were successfully completed with the participation of 120 Buddhist Monks and 349 Civilians.
The Mega Health Camp was conducted under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of Hospital SLAF Station Colombo, Group Captain (Dr.) PAV Padmaperuma and Senior Staff Officer of Dental Services, Group Captain (Dr.) P Dissanayake.

The health camp catered for the medical needs of all the Buddhist monks as well as civilians who participated, with free consultation, checkups with renowned specialists (in medical, surgical, dermatology, ophthalmology, pulmonology) and general practitioners, free medicines, laboratory investigations. Prominence was given to eye clinics which provided eye examinations, free spectacles, ECGs, Dental Services and many more services.
