Sri Lanka Air Force Conducts 1st Ever Flag Blessing at 'Sri Maha Bodhi' in Anuradhapura

The Sri Lanka Air Force, for the first time in its history conducted a Flag Blessing to celebrate the 69th Anniversary today (6 March 2020) at the Anuradhapura sacred 'Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi'. This initiative was taken this year on the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias. The event was also held under the auspices of the Commander in person.
A colourful pageant accompanied by monks proceeded to the Udamaluwa for religious performances as flag-bearers lined up at the Welimaluwa (lower-layer) after which, all flags representing the Sri Lanka Air Force and all Air Force Establishments were taken to the upper layer for the symbolic invocation of blessings. This symbolized the blessing of all personnel of the Sri Lanka Air Force serving around the entire island in various capacities.
The event was organized by SLAF Base Anuradhapura and was attended by the Chief of Staff, Member of the Air Force Board of Management, Senior Officers, Other Rankers and Civilian Staff representing the entire Air Force.
