On the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias the Directorate of Health Services and the Directorate of Ground Operations of the SLAF commenced renovation of wards 11 and 12 at the National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases at Welisara.The Directors of Health Services and Ground Operations made a visit to the site at Welisara yesterday (21 March 2020).

An Engineering Team consisting of 5 Officers and 76 airmen from the Civil Engineering Wing at SLAF Base Katunayake were deployed at the Welisara Hospital to carry out the renovation which was done within a very short period.

On completion of renovation of the wards, it has been planned to man these wards with SLAF Medical personnel in order to be used as a Quarantine Centre for those suspected to have been effected by COVID-19 also known as the Novel Corona Virus.
