SLAF Hands over Locally Manufactured Personal Protective Equipment Kits to Health Ministry

The Sri Lanka Air Force handed over 500 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Kits to the Ministry of Health Services today (23 March 2020). Under the supervision of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, the SLAF took on the task of locally manufacturing Personal Protective Equipment Kits. The manufacturing was done at the General Engineering Wing at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake.
The technical staff at the General Engineering Wing are continuously working around the clock to cater to need of the Nation and to manufacture as many kits as possible. The Commander also visited the manufacturing facilities at Katunayake yesterday to check on the manufacturing process being carried out. These kits will enable Doctors and Medical Staff caring for patients infected with COVID-19 to carry out their duties without fear of being infected.
The 500 PPE kits which is the first set of many more to come were handed over to the Secretary of the Ministry of Health Services, Mrs. Bhadrani Jayawardena and the Director General Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe at the Ministry of Health premises by Commanding Officer of the General Engineering Wing at Katunayake, Group Captain Indika Wickramasinghe, the Director General Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Andrew Wijesuriya and the Director Health Services, Air Vice Marshal (Dr) Lalith Jayaweera.
In addition the General Engineering Wing at SLAF Base Anuradhapura under the supervision of the Base Commander of SLAF Base Anuradhapura, Air Commodore LH Sumanaweera and led by Squadron Leader Sampath Dharmakeerthi also manufactured 100 PPE Kits. These kits were handed over to Dr. Udaya De Silva at the Anuradhapura Government Hospital. Dr. Udaya De Silva is the designer of the cost effective Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Kit which is being manufactured by the SLAF.
