Air Force Blue Eagles Emerges as Runners-Up at the Vantage FFSL Presidents Cup Soccer Tournament 2020

The Air Force Blue Eagles Soccer Team completed the Vantage FFSL Presidents Cup Soccer Tournament 2020 as the Runners-Up yesterday (2 September 2020) at the Sugathadasa Stadium. This tournament was organized for the first time in order to select players for the national football squad. 20 leading football clubs in the island took part in the tournament.
The Air Force Blue Eagles overcame Crystal Palace SC, Sri Lanka Transport Board SC and Colombo FC during the league stage to reach the Semi-Finals. During the Semi-Finals the Blue Eagles defeated Java Lane SC and made it to the final held yesterday. However, the AF Blue Eagles were unable to overpower the Colombo FC Team and had to be content with the Runners-Up position.
The AF Blue Eagles were captained by Leading Aircraftsman Lakmal Gunasinghe. Blue Eagles player Leading Aircraftsman Kavindu Ishan was also adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. The State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Rear Admiral (Retired) Sarath Weerasekara graced the finals as the Chief Guest. A large gathering from the SLAF was present to cheer on the Blue Eagles.
