No 7 Helicopter Squadron at Hingurakgoda Celebrates 26th Anniversary

The No 7 Helicopter Squadron located at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Hingurakgoda, asserts of a glamorous history from 1994 to date, by rendering 26 years of dedicated service, to the nation in times of need.

The Squadron, initially established as the No. 401 squadron on 23 September 1994 with Bell 212s and Bell 206s, was re-designated as the No.7 Squadron on 23 March 1996.

Marking the occasion, a Working Parade was held at the squadron premises which was reviewed by Group Captain Sameera Gunawardane the Commanding Officer of the Squadron followed by an address to the Officers and Other Ranks where he extended his appreciation to all members of the Squadron for the contribution that they have made to in maintaining the glory and the eminence of the Squadron.
 
The parade was followed by a friendly cricket tournament which was held at the Base Sports Arena where all serving personnel attended. Group Captain Damika Dias, the Base Commander of SLAF Base Hingurakgoda graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

During the celebrations, they remembered all those who have contributed for the success of the squadron with deep gratitude and paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Squadron as well.

The Squadron, conducted number of Community Service Projects in parallel with the 26th anniversary and in addition, a ‘Bodhi Pooja’ programme was arranged at Hingurakgoda, Buddhist Centre to invoke blessings of the triple gems for the wellbeing of the past and present members of the Squadron.
