A newly constructed Hangar Annexure Building for the No 2 Heavy Transport Squadron at SLAF Base Katunayake was declared open by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias on 25 October 2020.

This new Hangar Annexure will house the Forward Supply Stores, Servicing Bays and a Squadron Cafeteria. The ceremony was held with restricted participation due to the health situation in the country. The Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha, the Commanding Officer of the No 2 Squadron, Group Captain Pradeep Piyarathne together with Officers and Other Ranks from the No 2 Squadron participated for the event.

The construction of the new Hangar Annexure was carried out by the Civil Engineering Wing at Katunayake under the supervision of the Directorate of Civil Engineering.
