Rescuers Pass Out

A new batch of ‘Rope Rescue’ trained SLAF personnel  passed out yesterday (28th September 2010) after a practical session carried out on the sea close to the Browns Beach Hotel in, Negambo. The practical session was carried out in collaboration with the No. 04 Helicopter Squadron.


A team consisting of forty two  selected Fire fighters, Gunners and Air Gunners were given a 22 day training at the SLAF Fire Unit and  SLAF Base Katunayaka under the guidance of SLAF Chief Fire Officer Wing Commander Ruwan Jayasinghe whilst Squadron Leader Chamil Hettiarachchi acted as the officer in charge of the course. Flight Sergeant Ratnasena and Sergeant Pradeep Kumara were also involved with the course.


 The trainees are capable of emergency rescue of persons who are trapped in burning buildings as well as floods, landslides and other natural dissaster situations. Also they were trained with first aid and trauma management.
