SLAF EXTENDS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE RESTORATION OF “DEEGAWAPIYA STUPA”

The financial drive for the restoration of the “Deegawapiya Stupa”, formal launching ceremony was held under the patronage of His Excellency the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa at Sambodhi Viharaya, Colombo 07 today (12 February 2021). The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana presented a symbolic cheque of Rs. 5 Million to His Excellency the President, in view of the restoration project of the Deegawapiya Stupa.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and Minister of Urban Development, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa inaugurated this restoration project on 11 November 2020. The renovation is currently on progress under the guidance of the Chief Prelate of Sacred Deegawapiya Temple Venerable Mahaoya Sobitha Thero.
The occasion was also attended by Anunayaka of Asgiriya Chapter, Venerable Vendaruwe Upali Thero, members of Maha Sangha, Ministers and Members of Parliament, Secretary of Defence and Chairperson of Archaeological Heritage Management Presidential Task Force for Eastern Province, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Inspector General of Police and other distinguished guests.
