COMMANDER ATTENDS DINNER NIGHT HOSTED IN HONOUR OF WAR VETERAN INMATES AT THE 'MIHINDU SETH MEDURA', ATTIDIYA

A colourful dinner night was hosted to the differently able war veteran inmates at the 'Mihindu Seth Medura', Attidiya by Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) on the eve of 20 February 2021. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana along with the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana participated for this event.
The ‘Mihindu Seth Medura', is a healing home for war veterans who were disabled during the battle. It is also a 'Home Away Home' for the gravely disabled heroes with restricted movements requiring continuous care, attention and assistance.
Defence Ministry’s SVU Chairperson, Mrs Chithrani Gunaratne accompanied by Secretary, Ministry of Defence and State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force, Director General Civil Security Department (CSD) and Chairperson’s of Army, Navy Air Force SVU’s distributed gifts to those spending their rest of the life in beds. Additional Secretaries of the Defence Ministry, Military Liaison Officer, other members of respective SVUs, staffers of the 'Mihindu Seth Medura', senior military officers and other ranks were also present at the event.
Afterwards, the cultural troupe of the SLAF performed a ‘Pooja Dance’ signifying the commencement of the proceedings of the colourful evening. The Mihindu Seth Medura, the first of such amenity built in South Asia, is a brainchild of His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa when he was the Defence and Urban Development Secretary.
The event was organized with adherence to strict health and safety guidelines for the prevention of COVID-19.
